EXISTING VIEW TOWARDS "BATHROOM"
The white box is the existing toilet room. Pretty nast little thing. I did save the walls. They'll make some nice wainscotting somwhere (probably the kitchen).

THE ORIGINAL FAMILY ROOM
Until some plumbing issues were resolved (and I got around to drawing out two sketchy plans) I didn't feel comfortable proceeding. So I set up a makeshift family room. It was as fun as it looks

GARAGE DOOR
There's the really solid stair landing. Complete with scarp of blue carpet (the same that was in the second floor hall). Originally I planned to keep it, but it became clear that it was a piece of junk and had to be ripped out.

STAIR
The stair remained. You can see the laundry area in the background. The much used eliptical machine had to be reloacted to behind the furnace. It's not as creepy as you might think.

CIRCLING THE ROOM
This is the future TV viewing area.

CLOSEUP OF STAIR LANDING
Notice the brick. The former home ownders apparently couldn't work a hammer.

DUCTWORK
In future TV area. 95% of the ceiling is finished. I guess someone got bored and didn't finish up here.

DUCTWORK 2
The return air runs along one of the beams. A mere four inches separates them. Old plaster and drywall bridge the gap. The plaster no longer looks any good, and will have to go.

STAIR
Looking at the stair from the laundry area.

LAUNDRY ROOM
Venting going somewhere. I don't know where though. I guess I should poke around the kitchen upstairs and try to solve that mystery.

LOOKING DOWN THE STAIRS
To try and unify the kitchen and the basement stairs someone put down this lovely faux-tile vinyl covering.

LOOKING DOWN THE STAIRS
The carpet is now off the landing. Hmm. Why are there different pieces of wood there? I don't know. Could it have something to do with the leaky wall? Yes. More to come.

STAIRS
Instead of putting a third covering over the stairs, I decided to take off the first two. Quite a chore

RIPPING UP THE LANDING
Originally I planned to keep the landing. Then I saw how it was built.

LANDING AND STAIR SUPPORT
Here's my great stair support. I kept adding wood, screws, and floor bolts until I felt it could hold the stairs up. Then I toseed in a car jack for added measure. Can't go wrong with redundancy. I eventually put in a board between the staris and the wall to pick up some horizontal thrust.
