LUMBER'S HERE
And I'm out of shape. Shouldn't be that out of breath. You may notice that I did not clear out the work area entirely. Mostly due to laziness with a little ignorance thrown in. Eventaully everyting made it out of the way.

BACK VIEW OF STAIR
Notice the stair support. No, I had no great idea what I was doing.

FUTURE TV AREA
You can see the chalk line where the wall will be. I wasn't sure how much space to give to the TV and laundry room. So a few lines were drawn and the couch brought in to help solve the question.

THERE'S THE CHRISTMAS TREE HOLDER
Don't know what happened to it by Christmas. You can also see some of the existing landing construction. A real "non-solid" job.

STAIR SUPPORT
Couldn't get enough of this, apparently.

STAIR LANDING
The decking is all gone.

STAIR
I tossed in this board to help resist horizontal thrust.
THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK FOUND
And the reason for the different boards on the existing landing. A crack had developed over time. I discovered someone had tried to caulk the crack. I don't know if that ever work. I cleaned out all the caulk and filled the crack with hydrostatic cement. Then painted it with latex paint.
FRAMING BEGINS
And I purchase an pneumatic nailer. That hammer swinging got old fast.

NEW LANDING FRAMING
Pressure treated lumber attached to the wall, then 2x8s on that.

FRAMING GROWS
The landing is taking shape.

STAIRS ARE ENCLOSED
I put backs on the previously open stairs.

STAIR CLOSEUP

LANDING CLOSEUP
Much more solid now.

EXISTING BATHROOM WINDOW
E ight windows in the basment. All glassblock except for this one. Maybe they couldn't part with the shades?

BATHROOM CEILING
Ducts and pipes and wires run everywhere in the bathroom ceiling. It's a crazy mess.

FRAMING NEAR FURNACE AREA
Framing to enclose the furnace area and new bathroom on left.

FRAMING
The bathroom is straight back. Stairs to left, TV area behind.

LOOKING INTO BATHROOM

BLOCKING IS ADDED
Like a first child, I took many photographs in the early stages of the project.

COLUMN AND STAIR FRAMING
The existing column is enclosed, and I hope strengthened a little.

HALF WALL
Framing for the half-wall. The pipe running through it is a waste line with a clean-out at the bottom.

MORE FRAMING

LANDING FRAMING
Hung with joist hangers. You can also see the step there. I made the new landing larger than the old. And tried to have a larger seating stair, it could even double as a stage. Pattern 157.

HALF WALL DETAIL
I didn't get the two side of the half-wall quite square. So I tired to make my own homemade turnbuckle and pull them into alignment. That was a good use of an hour.

LANDING DETAIL
The stairs sit directly on the framing.

STAIR LANDING
I was particullary proud of the landing.

PLYWOOD
A couple scrap boards served as a landing for a while. That's one piece of plywood there. It was quite a chore to get into place, take out of place to make cuts, and then put back into place.
