I sit next to a guy at work - who often interrupts in-person conversations
to answer the phone. The person he was talking to, needing to kill half
a minute, often turns to me. They usually strike up a conversation by
asking me a question. I have learned to stop talking (to help retain a
little self-esteem) after I hear the click of the phone from the guy next
to me. That's when my questioner leaves, not caring if I'm still talking
or not.
